Every player swung a good bat tonight for the White Sox.

The Giants were led by the combined pitching of Doug Bell & Derrick Vaughn.

striking out 7 while only giving up 2 hits, 3 walks and 2 runs. Trevon Godfrey came in for the fifth & sixth

striking out 5 only allowing an opposite field single to Eric Cichocki who had a good game at

the plate going 2 for 3 and behind the plate he was solid throwing out 2 runners.

The Tiger hitting was led by Garrett Gersch who reached base all 3 times with 2 doubles and 2 RBI.

Trevon Godfrey also had 2 doubles and 2 RBI while stealing home. Devin Palmer had a rocket single.

Some fine defense by both shortstops Joe Ciaravino for the Tigers and Jerome Jackson for the Cards.

Richard Mitchell was great behind the plate like his counterpart. This was the first game Richard ever caught with the

best yet to come. Ryan Mazzola also played good defense at second as did Mike Duquet and Dillon Webb.

Grant Mercer was solid in his major league debut as was Dan Palmer.

Nick Maxwell took the mound for the Cards tonight and did a great job, only giving up 6 hits while

striking out 8. Some solid Cardinal defense today by Larry Upshur at third.

The Young guns of the Cards came to play led by Robert Zurawski, Tyler Ciechanowski,

Nick Ellery and Devin Naidow. The future looks good for the 2008 Cardinals.

All in All a solid game by both teams !!!!!

Yankees 24 - Cubs 3

4/24

Naylan Johnson lead the Yankees to their first victory of the year with a solid effort in 3.5 innings and was backed up with

a solid defense and offense that featured a 3rd inning one hop blast to the fence by Izzy.

Keep up the hard work Cubs!

White Sox 9 - Pirates 7

4/26

A fine game today which found the Pirates on the short end.  The Pirates defense was less that perfect in some innings,

but still made some fine plays. Sean Goolsby pitched well for 3 innings(67 pitches) as did Tristan Richardson(40 pitches)

and Brian Echols(22 pitches). On offense, Brian Echols was 2 for 4 with a triple and a double.

Casey Livingston went 3 for 4 and Jacob Rees in his first game as a major leaguer walked and had a strong hit the RF.

Jacob scored twice, flashing some of his blazing speed.

Cardinals 7 - Yankees 6

4/26

The Cards held off the Yanks for a thrilling opening day win, 7 to 6. Jerome Jackson started for the Cards, but struggled in the first,

giving up three runs on on one hit (HR), four walks and one hit bats-man. All this happened after J.J. retired the first two batters.

The birds answered with tree runs of their own in their half of the first. Larry Upshur,(2-3, 2 runs), led off with a single.

Two outs later J.J. singled in a run, Connor Perreault reached on a fielders choice and both came in on Nick (Max) Maxwell's single.

Both teams were held scoreless until the Cards pushed 4 across in their half of the fourth. Nick Ellery,(2-3,sac,1 run) and

Eric Cichocki (single, 1 run) had key hits in the inning. The Yanks came right back with three in the top of the fifth off of reliever

Larry Upshur but some timely strikes and  good defense, kept the redbirds in the lead.

Defensive stand-outs were Eric Cichocki, who continues to keep the runners in check and the ball in front of him,

the entire infield especially Rob Zurawski and Nick Ellery and Josh ( Peppy ) Piepszowski, who made a circus catch in left.

Jonathan Bevier and Jakob Hook  combined to allow 7 runs (1 earned) in the defeat. The offense only could muster 6 hits,

with one inside the park home run by Ronnie.  The Cards continued to keep the Yanks at bay with solid pitching and defense.

Keep up the hard work Cardinals.

4/26

Trevon Godfrey was the starting pitcher throwing 2 innings (40 pitches) striking out 6 with No hits to earn the victory.

Devin Palmer came in the third inning for some solid relief work in his Major League pitching debut.

Devin struck out 9 batters while allowing just 2 hits, a rocket off the bat of Nicolle Haggerty for a double

and a single off the bat of Nick McEvoy. Devin was also the hitting leader of the game driving a double

off the left field fence, another rope single to left. Trevon Godfrey doubled in a run, Joe Ciaravino doubled,

while Dillon Webb doubled in the gap driving in a run,  Garrett Gersch continued stroking the ball with a

RBI single, and Nick Mazzola singled in a run.

Dillon Webb also made a fine defensive play at first by nabbing a sinking liner over his head.

Derrick Vaughn was the opening day starter for the Giants doing a fine job striking out 7 in 3 innings of work while giving up 4 runs.

Connor Marshall came in relief and did a great job in his 3 innings of work striking out 6 allowing 3 runs.

Great Opening day game by both teams. I would like to again thank Mike Haggerty, his coaching staff, the players and the Giant

families for the willingness to move the game to 6pm so I could attend my son's graduation and still be a part of

Opening day, MY HAT'S OFF TO ALL OF YOU, REAL CLASS !!!!!!
