Yankees 10 - Pirates 1 5/ 05The Yanks took on the defending NL champs today with Jakob Hook taking the hill, 7k's, and Jesse Brian closing out the game with an inning of shutout pitching
3k's. The hitting attack was lead by Marty Brown 2/3, Jonathon Bevier 2/3,
Alex DeLeeuw 2/3 with an
inside the park home run, Jesse Brian 2/3, Michael Pineda 2/2 and
Thomas Mascarin 2/4 that featured 10 runs today. Keep up the
hard work everyone!
A tough night as
fine pitching by Brian Jaminet, Brian Echols and Bobby Root was wasted
by defensive lapses.
On the bright side, there were some sparkling plays in the field. Donovan Travis was sterling at 3b. Bobby Root shined playing 2b. The bats were quiet tonight only registering 4 singles.
The Pirates continue to paste together
lineups, but the youngsters are learning and the near future looks
bright.

White Sox 5 - Tigers 2 5/ 06What a pitchers duel tonight. Marquis "Squeeze" Harper was masterful on the mound for the Sox tonight. Striking out the big bats of the the Tigers. While Nick Mazzola pitched well enough for the win, except for the critical errors behind him the game would still be going. The Sox were also led by the bat of Marquis and his blazing speed on the bases, scoring from second on a ground ball out The White Sox coaching staff would like to thanks Jalen Lillard for coming up from the Red Wings to play left field for the short handed Sox doing a great job. Chris Sedrowski, Rollin Matthews and Clifton Pope also were contributors at the plate for the well coached White Sox team tonight. Defensively Phil Chismody was stellar, while Ryan DeWaele and Eli Jordan were key players in the Sox victory tonight. Coach D is is very proud of his newly drafted Tigers tonight who along with Garrett Gersch ( 10 year old ) were big contributors to the Tigers tonight. 9 year old Ryan Mazzola singled, 9 year old Dillon Webb double to the gap in right center driving in Garrett who singled earlier. While 9 year old Mike Duquet made the defensive play of the night robbing Marquis of a bases clearing shot by diving to his left making a great pick up and getting up to beat the runner going to second, WOW ! 10 year old Grant Mercer is also showing great strides and is a big contributor to this team. Newly drafted 12 year old Richard Mitchell singled tonight and is improving a great deal behind the plate as a first year catcher. Tigers are getting themselves playoff ready.

Pirates 14 - Tigers 3 5/10
Fine pitching by
Bobby Root only walking 1 batter and nice hitting propelled the Pirates
tonight.
Nehemiah Meyers, Weseley Watt and Bobby Root all had strong hits to the outfield, among other Pirate hits. Great defense by Donovan Travis at 3B.
Garrett Clark in his first major league
game went
2 for 3 plus a walk. Nice job.
Hats off to
the two 9 year old pitchers for the Tigers that held the Pirates to just
3 runs after the first inning. Nice job.
OUCH THAT HURT ! The Tigers fell hard tonight but some value did come out of this game for the Tigers. 9 year old Ryan Mazzola came on in relief in the first inning when starter Joe Ciaravino could not make it out the inning, Ryan finished the inning and pitched into the 4th only allowing 2 runs. 9 year old Dillon Webb came in the 4th and pitched the final 2 innings striking out 4 Pirates allowing 1 run. 9 year old ( yet turned 10 today ) Michael Duquet has proven to Coach D that he is the real deal making an ESPN play at short tonight, along with all the other plays he made. 10 year old Dan Palmer roped his first major league hit, 10 year old Grant Mercer was solid at third, 10 year old Noah Varicalli reached base twice with a single and a walk. Richard Mitchell is quickly becoming a solid catcher and also had 2 line shot singles. Trevon Godfrey went 2 for 3. To a player the team says "We will be playoff ready"

Cardinals 3 - Tigers 2 5/11
In my three plus years of covering and reporting on the St. Louis
Cardinals I've yet to bring good news following any game
against the Tigers, until now. The Cards took another giant step in what looks to be their best season in recent history. Nick "Max" Maxwell was locked in the pitching duel of his young life as he went pitch to pitch with one of the best, Trevon Godfrey. David vs. Goliath and we know how that ended! Clinging to a 2-1 lead a defensive miscue set-up the tying run as Nick Mazzola reached third and scored on a wild pitch. Good "D" got the Redbirds out of trouble with Eric Cichocki holding on to a two-strike foul tip, then following a walk, threw out the runner at second by five feet. He ended the fourth by nailing a runner trying to steal third. When will people learn he has a cannon and will use it! Dave Cawley played flawless left field and made a great catch on what many thought was a sure double, not this time. The Cards built upon that but the real highlight came to end the fifth. One pitch after being relieved by Larry Upshur, "Max" snared a hard smash off the bat of Joe Ciaravino that could have scored the two men on base. Instead "Max" doubled off the runner at third and saved the game. Nobody was more stunned than "Max", it happened that fast. Larry faced the first batter in the sixth and gave up a single. The "no-brainer" decision to bring in J.J.Jackson to face Trevon with a man on paid-off with a three pitch strike-out. Following a walk the Cards closed out the game. J.J. also added two singles and some very aggressive base running to lead the Cards offense. Next game is against the Yankees for the league lead and bragging rights even though the Yanks lone lose was to the Cardinals. Could be a classic! Trevon Godfrey was masterful on the mound today for the Tigers, striking out 12 while only allowing 3 unearned runs in 4 innings of work, 2 of which scored on one passed ball. Garrett Gersch came on in relief in his first ever pitching performance in the Majors to hold the Cards scorless. Richard Mitchell for only his second year in organized baseball, has improved vastly behind the plate, yet some defensive lapses still show he has some work to do yet by the end of the regular season he will be primed and ready. At the plate for the Tigers today the team leader were: Nick Mazzola who reached base all 3 times, Garrett Gersch continued his hot bat by doubling and singling, while Dillon Webb walked twice and Grant Mercer reached on a base on balls. This team made up of young talent is playing solid ball and learning on the way. A devastating loss to the pitching staff with Devin Palmer breaking his finger. Results will not be known on how long he will be unable to play for a few days. Get well Soon !!!!!
