WEEK 4

Giants 3 - Tigers 2

5/12

What a Ball Game! It had it all.

Great defense by the likes of Giant's Trent Lacroix and Ian Marshall and Tiger's Ryan Mazzola and Mike Duquet.

A Home Run blast to the batting cages by Tiger Trevon Godfrey. Phenomenal pitching by both Derrick Vaughn and Nick Mazzola, with

fine relief pitching by Doug Bell & Joe Ciaravino. Too Bad someone had to lose tonight. These are 2 teams dominated by young talent and

do not let either teams records fool you, they are to be reckoned with every night !! Grant Mercer of the Tigers had a great at bat

tonight fouling of pitches working the count to earned a walk. A true coaches pleasure !! Other fine performances were given tonight by

Connor Marshall, Nick McEvoy, Garrett Gersch, Taylor Genzman & Nicole Haggerty.

White Sox 2 - Pirates 1

5/12

Yankees 10 Cardinals 6

5/13

The true test of a team is when they play with adversity and find a way to win,  this is a good Yankee team!

Naylan Johnson took the hill spotting the redbirds two runs in the first.

In the second Jonathon Bevier took over to settle the game down until the 6th when Jakob Hook came in for the save.

With the Cards up 2-0 in the 3rd we broke through with Marty Brown taking a lead off walk and advancing to 2nd on Alex DeLeeuw

base hit.  With 2 outs Jesse Brian doubled in both runners and Izzy cashing him with a 3b, taking the lead and never looking back.

With a Cardinal pitching change in the 4th the pinstripes put 6 more on the board with Big Jake Hearing and Gabriel Plaza taking

the free passes to lead the way for the big inning.  Defensively Naylan lead the way with an unassisted dp at 1st and Gabriel laying

out in left field with a ball falling off the tip off his mit and Jesse firing the ball to second to nail the Cardinal runner.

Hitters that shined Thomas Mascaring 2/2, Michael Pineda 1/1, Big Jake 1/1, Izzy 2/3, Jesse 2/3 and Ronnie 2/4.

Keep up the hard work Pinstripes and Redbirds!

The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead into the third when the defensive wheels feel off the wagon.

The Yanks put together three hits and a walk to go up 3-2. Larry Upshur started for the Cards and seemed to be cruising it

what looked to be a a low scoring affair. When he started to falter the 'Birds turned to J.J. Jackson to put down the Yanks uprising.

J.J.'s location was nowhere to be found and some poor "D" led to the big inning the Cards have avoided so far this season.

The yanks put six across in the fourth and took control of the game. A late inning rally by the cards feel short as they scored

four runs in the top of the sixth but failed to complete the deal, leaving the bases loaded to end the game.

Tigers 13 - Cubs 2

5/14

Nick Mazzola took the mound today for the Tigers striking out 15.

The Tiger hitting attack was led by Trevon Godfrey who homered and tripled. Other key contributors

at the plate were Joe Ciaravino who had 2 hits and 2 runs, Nick Mazzola had 2 hits with 2 RBI,

Ryan Mazzola singled in a run, Garrett Gersch had a 2 RBI single, Noah Varicalli had a huge 2 RBI single

and Richard Mitchell has the eye of an eagle walking all 3 times and scoring twice.

Defensive Tiger standout were Dillon Webb at first, Trevon in center Richard behind the plate,

Dan Palmer in right and Grant Mercer in left while Noah Varicalli made a nice play at second.

The young Cub team showed a lot of promise today with an infield of all 9 & 10 year olds

which included Alec Berry, Craig Woodhall, Brian McNamara, brother Rory behind the plate

while 10 year old Malik Bruton was the starter for the Cubs and also play infield.

KEEP UP THE HARD WORK CUBS !! GO TIGERS !!!!!

Giants10 - Pirates 7

5/14

What a game today.  A duel to the end that featured nice pitching, fielding and hitting on both sides.

For the Giants, Connor Marshal and Tommy Whitcher both pitched outstanding.

The Giant team played as a whole unit and never gave up the entire game. Derrick Vaughn made sensational play after play at

second base and Doug Bell was stellar behind the plate.

For the Pirates, the team continues to improve and learn.  Fine pitching by Brian "Iceman" Jaminet, Tristan "the kid" Richardson

and Sean "troublemaker" Goolsby.

The hitting was led by Casey "line shot" Livingston and Bobby "babe" Root.  Other notable performances by

Cameron "Rocket" Keuning, Nehemiah "Uncle Nee" Meyers, Tom "Madman" Meyering, Jacob "The weasel" Rees and

 Donovan "The Bull" Travis.

Both the Giants and Pirates will be gunning for the Cardinals come playoff time as each team is starting to hit stride!

White Sox 5 - Cardinals 4

5/15

The Cardinals fell to 6-3 following a 5-4 loss to the White Sox. With only 8 Card regulars on hand the Cardinals called up Kyle Cichocki

to fill out the line-up. Under manned is no way to go against the Sox even in a good year !

Nick"Max"Maxwell started for the Redbirds and held the Sox to three runs but ran out of pitches in the fourth.

Eric Cichocki came in in relief and got out, unscathed. He wasn't so lucky in the fifth as the Sox tied the score at four on Chris

Sedrowski's, full-count, lead-off homer. Eric retired the next three to set-up the sixth inning.

The Cards couldn't get a rally started but the Sox had no such problem, finishing with a run scoring drive to center with two outs

by Clifton Pope. Defensively the Cards played well enough to win led by J.J.Jackson,"Max"and Joshua"peppy"Piepszowski who made

his first start at second base and had one put-out while playing flawlessly. "Peppy also reached base on two walks while

Shane Mlynarek's two run single got the 'Birds on the board in the first. J.J., Eric and Larry Upshur also had hits.

Next game is Saturday as the Cards face the Pirates in the first of three against National league rivals. GO CARDS!!!!

Tigers 10 - Yankees 0

5/17

Trevon Godfrey took the mound for the Tigers today in an early morning game on LL#1.

Masterful and in control describes his pitching performance today striking out 15.

The Tiger bats today were led by Richard Mitchell going 2 for 2 with 2 walks & 2 runs,

Nick Mazzola added a single & 1 run, Joe Ciaravino singled in a run walked twice and scored while Mike Duquet added a single

and more importantly made the defensive play of the game by nabbing an overthrow on a steal then hustling back to the bag

and tagged the runner out. Young guns Dan Palmer 2 walks and Grant Mercer ( who continues to have great at bats) walked

are continuing to impress the coaches by their dedication and good play. Noah Varicalli, Ryan Mazzola, Dillon Webb

and Garret Gersch all reached base and scored today.

White Sox over Cubs

5/17

Cardinals 8 - Pirates 7

5/17

Cardinals bats helped Robert Zurawski get the win in a rain delayed and eventually rain shortened game.

A four run outburst in the first featuring a Eric Cichocki 2-run homer to left center with Larry Upshur (2-3,1run) aboard got the Cards

rolling. Rob also had a single in the first and Shane Mlynarek went two for two, knocking in 2 runs in the three run second.

Shane is playing great ball and made a fine catch in left field in the rain. The Pirates never gave up. Trailing 8-5,they managed to

score two runs in the top of the fourth as the hitters had the distinct advantage over the fielders in the driving rain that ended

the game after four innings. Larry came in to finish the game for Rob and gave up those two runs on three hits and a walk.

Good "D" and a strike-out saved the game for the 'Birds.

The Cardinal luck was at it again, as the game was called after 3-1/2 innings due to rain. The Pirates were mounting their come

back as everybody was hitting  and scoring.  Fine defense was being played, especially Tom Meyering and Tristan Richardson.

The Pirates continue to improve on the small things and come the last six games of the season,

when the whole team is at the games, we will be primed up for the playoffs.
