Yankees 11 - Cardinals 7 5/30 Jonathon Bevier took the hill and was effective while allowing 4 hits, 5 runs but issuing 9 BB. Twice this young man pitched out of a jam in the 2nd and 3rd. Aided by good defense in the outfield and a DP in the 3rd by Gabriel Plaza( + another good grab later) and Naylan Johnson. Gabe took the sharp drive stepping an 2nd and throwing to first for the DP. Hits were few, though not needed we were aided by 16 BB. Hits included Jonathon 1/2, Gabe 1/2 and Thomas Mascarin 1/2 and every batter reaching base at least once. Keep up the hard work Redbirds and Pinstripes!
The Cardinals record fell to 9-5 following
a darkness shortened game with the league leading Yanks.
Nick"Max"Maxwell struggled on the mound for the first time this season when the strike at the knees wasn't in vogue Friday night. "Max" allowed six runs on (6) walks and a single in his two innings of work as the running Yanks took control early and built on their lead , scoring runs in every inning except the third. Meanwhile the Cards were playing a game of at 'em ball as they drove the ball with authority but right at the Yanks fielders. Larry Upshur and Jerome"J.J."Jackson were the victims in the first two innings respectively, both hit drives to center field that the fielder hardly had to move for. "J.J."'s drive in the second came with two outs and the bases juiced. Another example was the smash up the middle by Eric Cichocki with a man on that the second baseman turned into a sweet double play because he was headed to second to cover any steal attempt, Bang Bang, two outs! In the next inning Eric stroked a two run double but the total comeback from their early deficit. Other hitters for the Redbirds were Connor"Beaver"Perreault(2b) Rob Zurawski, single and "J.J."(2-3) 2 singles. Better luck Saturday with end of the American league portion of the schedule on tap as the Cardinals face the White Sox in the rubber game of a best out of three season series. GO CARDS!!!!!!

Tigers 11 - Cubs 5 5/31 A combined pitching effort for the Tigers today. Richard Mitchell started his first Major League game on the mound, pitching well until his arm tired. Coach D then had to call on his ace reliever Joe Ciaravino again to shut the door down on the ever improving Cubs. Some stellar defense on both sides today, from the Tigers Mike Duquet has been and continues to play awesome defense at second base, Richard Mitchell made a bare handed ESPN highlight play at third, Trevon Godfrey was solid behind the plate blocking every pitch in the dirt, Noah Varicalli playing in center did a great job as did Garrett Gersch at short and Devin Palmer at first. The bottom of the Tiger line up has been the reason for their resurgence with the likes of Dan Palmer, Grant Mercer & Mike all have been reaching base and scoring. Today we were led by all of them and Devin, Trevon, Joe, Devin, Garret and Dillon Webb has drove in a lot of runs at the number 6 spot in the line up. Grant had an RBI single again today. Missing 2 key players today the team again stepped up to fill their vacancy. Keep up the hard work ! The Cubs had some great defense of their own today Brian McNamara made some outstanding plays at first base Steven Rocho also made the ESPN highlights with many great plays at third base robbing the Tigers of some extra base hits. Alec Berry once again proved he is a major league pitcher doing a great job. Brian McNamara led the Cubs at the plate by reaching base all 4 times with 2 walks a single and a rope triple, Andrew Toutant singled, as did Alec and Jay Smolinski doubled.

Giants 7 - Pirates 2 5/31 Nick McEvoy hit a three run home run today to ice the Giants inter league win today. Derrick Vaughn was solid on the mound for the Giants.
A tough 1st inning sunk the Pirate ship
today. After calming down, the Pirate pitchers of Cam Keuning and
Brian Echols
only allowed 2 runs the rest of the way.
The Pirate bats could only muster 2 runs,
though. Brian Echols, Brian Jaminet and Casey Livingston had the 4
Pirate hits.
Casey had 2 of them. Aside from inning 1, the Pirates were sound defensively, led by a great running catch in Right field by Donovan "The Bull" Travis.

Cardinals 6 - White Sox 5 5/31
The Cardinals locked-up sole possession of
first place and the #1 seed heading into the National league play
offs
with a hard fought 6-5 win over the defending champs the White Sox. In doing so the Cards also took 2 out of 3 from the Sox in their three game series this regular season. Larry Upshur started on the mound for the Cards and after walking lead-off man Marquis Harper he gave up a two run homer to right by Daniel Robinson. Some great fielding by second baseman Joshua "peppy" Piepszowski accounted for two put-outs in the first to get the 'Birds out of the inning. The Cards came back with two of their own in their half of the first, knotting the game at 2. Both teams went 3 up, 3 down in the second with "Peppy" making another put-out to go with 2 of Larry's 4k's. The Sox bounced right back and with two outs in the third, scored three runs to take a 5-2 lead. The Cardinals responded with one of their own and following a scoreless fourth inning and trailing 5-3 they turned the game over to "J.J."Jackson who did his job in shutting down the Sox offense. Inspired by "J.J."'s performance, the 'Birds rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth. With both teams forced to negotiate wind gusts of nearly 25 mph, it wasn't until then that it played a noticeable difference in the game. Sox reliever Marquis Harper was brought in to put down the Cards rally but did'nt have his best stuff and that was all the 'Birds needed. Walks, passed balls and wild pitches led to three runs in the bottom of the fifth and that was just what "J.J." needed. along with his location to nail down his win in relief. The Cards now close-out the regular season with three against National league foes as they fine tune their play heading into the playoffs. GO CARDS!!!!!!
